11/5/1928R. V. S. Perishastri, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, was born.
11/12/1954Bharat Reddy, cricket wicket-keeper (India 1979), was born in Madras.
10/22/1997Faced with unprecedented Presidential rebuff, a divided U.F. Government reversed decision on invoking Article 356 in Uttar Pradesh. Kalyan Singh government survived.
5/28/1968Bhagwan Gopinathji Bhan, was a mystic saint of early 20th century Kashmir in India. He has been called a ""jivanmukta"" (liberated soul) or ""Aghoreshwar"" and his spiritual state has been described as ""Shambhavi Avastha"" (state of Shiva), died. He was a great devotee of Shiva and Shakti and took intense "Sadhana". His disciples and devotees set up an ashram at Kharyar in Srinagar in his name.

A border war was also fought with China in 1962 in the North-Eastern region, which resulted in the loss of Aksai Chin in Ladakh and smaller areas in the North-east. India continues to dispute sovereignty over these areas.
